Abstract
This research is a literary study on a film entitled To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. The objectives of the study are to identify how Lara Jean is characterized in the movie To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movie and figure out how the
implementation of the mise-en-scène in the movie in resenting Lara Jean as the main character in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movie. This research focuses on Lara Jean’s characterization as the main character in the film, and the implementation of mise-en-scène aspects that support to present Lara Jean as the main character in the film, which was analyzed using the theory of characterization and mise-en-scène. Since the researcher uses a film as the object of the study, the study was done qualitatively which means the researcher conducted an analysis process by watching the film several times and noting the important things of information from the film. The result of the study shows the characterization of Lara Jean in the film; also how the mise-en-scène aspects help to exude Lara Jean's characterization as the main character in the film. In addition, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is able to trigger audiences’ interest since it presented a relatable story most teenagers go through nowadays, not able to
confess their feeling to their crush.Keywords: characterization, character, mise-en-scène, film
