Abstract
Junko Furuta is a song by Danilla Riyadi, which also related to the tragic story of Junko Furuta, a Japanese high school student who was abducted, raped, tortured, and murdered in the late 1980s. This study aims to find out how the song reveal hidden meaning or message and/or social criticism. Specifically, the study tries to analyze the text structure, to know and to describe the social cognition in the song,
and to explain the social context in the song. The researcher uses a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) concept along with Teun A. van Dijk framework, which has textual analysis, social cognition, and social context. She analyzed the song lyrics with those theories in qualitative research by having descriptive and interpretive methods. The result of this study shows that Junko Furuta song by Danilla Riyadi has some textual findings regarding its theme, scheme, semantic matter, syntax, stylistic, and rhetoric matter. All of those textual findings show social criticism in the whole song lyrics. The song lyrics are derived from and inspired Danilla Riyadi to knowing Junko Furuta tragic story as social cognition of text reproduction of the song. How the story reflects the hidden meaning in society is reflected by social phenomena which is the tragic story of Junko Furuta and the general power misuse between men and women.
