Abstract
Preeclampsia is a pregnancy specific disorder characterized by hypertension (systolic blood pressure of > 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of > 90 mmHg) accompanied by proteinuria ( > 30 mg/ liter of urine or > 300 mg/ 24 hours), generally occurring after 20 week gestation. This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of low dose aspirin to prevent preeclampsia hypertension in pregnant
women.This study uses a systematic review tobe used as a comparison in the use of aspirin in several studies which state that aspirin cannot reduce the incidence of
preeclampsia when prescribed due to certain risk factors. The data in this research were sourced from a thorough search with PubMed and Google Scholar search engines using keywords "preeclampsia" and "aspirin". There were 937 articles found, only 8 of which met the criteria. Overall, the articles obtained lead to a reduced risk of preeclampsia. Aspirin is highly recommended for women with a
high risk of preeclampsia and the prevention had better begin between 12 – 28 weeks of pregnancy. However, the use of aspirin should be monitored for its side effects.
