Abstract
In this era of globalization, English is needed so that many residents from various countries learn English, one of which is the Indonesian residents. In Indonesia itself, English has been made a compulsory subject in several educational institutions from basic education to higher education so, this makes English a must-learn subject for young learners. In this research, the problem statements discussed are, (1) what are parents’ and teachers’ opinions about English learning by learners at a young age, (2) how the parents’ role in educating their children in learning English. The objective of this study is to identify the importance of English learning for young learners from the perspective of parents and teachers and to understand the role of parents in educating their children in learning English. This research used mix methods, which is a combination of two types of research methods, namely qualitative and quantitative.Based on the results of the analysis that has been carried out, the data shows that in the opinion of parents and teachers, English learning is a very important thing for young learners to learn and do especially at the early age. This is because of the development of the world nowadays which makes English very much needed also the benefits obtained by young learners if they learn English nowadays are very much and beneficial for their future later. In another, there are indications that parents think that their role is very important in educating their children in learning English, they also argue that that
parents are always educated and guided their children about what is around them including introducing them to language since they are very young and were underage to be entering early or formal education. So, they are called the main educators for their children.Keywords: English Learning, Young learners, parents’perspectives, teachers’ perspectives
