Abstract

Medicinal plants are a group of plant species that can be used to maintain and improve one’s health as well as decorate one’s surroundings. The lack of public
knowledge about medicinal plants in Indonesia could impact the utilization of these plants as preventive and curative efforts to maintain public health. Therefore,
attempts to educate people about medicinal plants are paramount, especially among youth. Quartet cards have educational benefits through pictures as visualizations, and text as descriptors of visible objects. This can increase interest in studying medicinal plants. The medicinal plant quartet card design is accompanied by Victorian
elements, sketched with naturalist-styled botanical illustrations that utilizes the eyeballing technique as the primary method of visualization. The kawung motif is
also featured in some elements within the design as tribute to Indonesia’s batik. A set of quartet cards consists of 32 cards with eight categories, namely: fruit, seeds,
tree bark, aromatics, rhizomes, leaves, flowers, and trees. The design includes packaging for quartet cards and game instructions as well as a website and an Instagram account as promotional media. The results of the quartet cards trial on eight teenagers aged 12-15 years showed a significant increase in recognizing medicinal plants.
