Abstract
Love, Simon movie is about the main character and his self-acceptance towards his sexual preferences. The objectives of this study are to identify 1) the main character’s coming out decisions and 2) the interrelation between his coming out decisions and his psychic apparatus interaction based on Freudian psychoanalytic criticism. In this research, the writer uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. In order to make the analysis, the writer will gather the data from the movie which is the main source of this
study. The study found that the character makes four major decisions related to his coming out. The four coming out decisions have the interrelation with the main character's psychic apparatus based on the triangulation process, while the main character’s decision making always follows this structure: id as the main drive, superego as the inhibitor, and ego as the main executor in decision making. Thus, the movie Love, Simon, the main character Simon has created four major decisions related to his coming out, in which every decision follows the plot structure. Each decision is created using conscious strategy, and each decision
always has the interaction of psychic apparatus, with Simon’s id as the main drive, Simon’s superego as the inhibitor, and most importantly, Simon’s ego as the main executor for each of his decision making.Keywords: decision-making, Freudian psychoanalytic criticism, id, ego, superego, coming out
