Abstract
This creative nonfiction thesis takes a reflective narrative approach to explore a transformative five-month student exchange experience in Taiwan. It explores five key themes, including the personal and academic journey, cultural and educational appreciation, emotional and intellectual growth, self-transformation, and experiential learning. The work applies relevant educational theories, such as Mayer's multimedia learning principles, realia, and personalization, to real-life classroom experiences in Taiwan. In addition to sharing academic and cultural insights, this thesis also reflects on the writing process itself. It highlights the challenges of combining academic theory with personal storytelling and explains how feedback helped to refine the narrative structure. Furthermore, it emphasises the transformative growth in self-awareness, adaptability, and confidence that happened during the exchange program.
