Abstract
Binahong leaves are used as traditional medicine for the prevention and treatment of degenerative diseases such as diabetes mellitus. Binahong leaves (Anredera cordifolia (Ten) Steenis) contain flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins and
saponins. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving binahong leaves (Anredera cordifolia (Ten) Steenis) on glucose levels in the blood and variations in the concentration of binahong leaf extract which had
the best therapeutic effect. In this study, flavonoid compounds had a greater role in reducing blood sugar levels. This study was conducted using the intraperitoneal streptozotocin induction method at a dose of 150 mg / KgBB /
this study was divided into 5 groups, namely group I negative control (without therapy), group II positive control (glibenclamide therapy), group III concentration 80 mg / KgBB, Group IV with a concentration of 100 mg /
KgBB, and Group V with a concentration of 120 mg / KgBB of binahong leaf extract. The drug used was glibenclamide as a comparison from 70% ethanol extract of binahong leaves. Measurement of blood glucose levels was carried out after the induction of Streptozotocin and the examination was carried out every day. Glucose levels in levels were analyzed using the one way ANOVA statistical test and followed by the Post Hoc LSD test, the ANOVA results
showed that each group had a significant difference in the therapeutic effect (p ≤ 0.05), then the Post Hoc LSD test in group II with group III and group IV with group VI there was no difference (≥ 0.05). Then the recommended concentration variation has the best therapeutic effect at a dose of 80 mg / KgBB.Key words: Binahong leaves (Anredera cordifolia (Ten) Steenis), streptozotocin.(STZ), glibenclamide, blekstood glucose levels
