Abstract

The writer wrote a translation thesis about one of the famous horror novels by Stephen King named IT. IT is a significant horror story that has gained critical
recognition; however, there is no official Indonesian translation now. The writer chose this novel for the translation project because the writer wants to make
Indonesian readers know about this underrated horror novel. The writer used two translation techniques that are the adaptation and borrowing techniques for the translation project. The writer will translate three chapters of the novel. The writer uses the book named The Winter People written by Jennifer Mcmahon and translated by Angelic Zai-Zai as a model for the translation technique and strategy. During the translation, problem that the writer faced during the translation project is: overusing two connecting words, translating the text unnaturally, not adapting any obscene words, paragraph splitting in the dialogue section, removing the sub-chapter number of the novel accidentally, and having
problems with idioms words. In conclusion, the translation had some problems to it, but it is still manageable by the writer himself by revising some of the problems
in his translations. Keywords: borrowing and adapting techniques, translation
