Abstract

This paper reports the non-thesis translation project of translating a novel with title Front Desk by Kelly Yang. The objectives of this report are to help people who cannot speak English be able to read this book, and also spread the awareness on how dangerous racism and bullying are to someone's life. This novel tells a story about a little girl who came to America with the hope of living a better life, but instead she experienced racism and bullying because of her race, culture, and traditions. The writer focuses on translating chapter 1 until 26 to be easier in
analyzing the problems during the translation. The methods used by the writer is target language oriented which focus on the target readers by using adaptation and cultural equivalence. The writer encountered some problems related to the idiom, linguistic, and elements. Therfore, the writer solved the problem by applying communicative translation, and foreignization strategy to produce an accurate and
natural translation under the title Resepsionis.
