Abstract
Snowpiercer is a science fiction movie about an ice age that happens in the future due to a scientist's experiment to reduce global warming around the world. In this research, the writer attempt to analyze the reason behind the success of the Curtis Everett rebellion in the movie. The writer is curious whether the characterization leads to the success of his rebellion, which is revealed in the movie’s plot. The
objectives of this study are to identify 1) What is Curtis’s character and characterization? 2) From his characterization what aspect can be found that etermine the success of his rebellion? In this research, the writer uses the Objective
Criticism method since the writer only focuses on the movie as the primary data. To create the analysis, the writer gathers data from the intrinsic elements of the
movie, such as plot, theme, characters, characterization, and four elements from mise-en-scene. After the writer analyzed the intrinsic elements, the writer figured
out that Curtis’s inflated responsibility was the major aspect of why Curtis’s rebellion succeeds. The writer found that Curtis felt several responsibilities for the
tail section, for their welfare, and justice. These responsibility urges his obsession to take control of the train in order to bring better situation for the tail section. In addition to the writer’s analysis on his personality development, the writer also found his personality traits that contributed to the success of his rebellion by two factors, namely environment and situation which result in developing Curtis’s personality traits called neuroticism.
