Abstract

Parenting is a practice carried out by parents to supervise the development of their children and share challenges related to optimizing their potential. Parenting is crucial in maximizing children's potential; however, if parents are not psychologically prepared, they may struggle to understand their children's feelings and emotions. This can have negative consequences on children's future development. Therefore, the author designed an interactive illustration book titled "Befriending Children" to provide a solution in supporting positive emotional development in children. The research method used in this study was qualitative
research, involving observing children's daily behavior, conducting relevant book searches, and interviewing a psychologist and two young mother informants. The
author also employed design thinking and cyclic strategy as design methods for the book. The interactive illustration book "Befriending Children" underwent design stages based on design thinking and cyclic strategy. The insights gained from the interviews with the psychologist and informants were crucial in designing the book's content, such as combining engaging illustrations with brief explanations of
emotions and providing simple tips for managing children's emotions. The book also includes blank pages that allow children to express their feelings. This design
successfully achieved the goal of providing interactive education to young parents in gaining a deeper understanding of children's emotions in an engaging manner. The interactive illustration book was printed with a hardcover, measuring 20x20 cm, using 100 gsm book paper. Additionally, the author designed supporting media such as a totebag, card holder and lanyard, a bucket hat, a tumbler, set of keychain, and bookmarks.Keywords: Interactive Illustration Book, Parenting, Children's Emotions
