Abstract
Andre Aciman provides a different perspective on homosexual couples in his novel. He made one family accept their child into a homosexual who most ofparents did not want their son to become homosexual. The background of this thesis
is the concern of the author regarding the issue of homosexuality in the novel Call Me by Your Name. Not only the family, but also the society are accepting and
welcoming them with their identity as a homosexual couple because they have such a good attitude and behaviour in the society. Realizing that nowadays, the issue of
homosexuality has become a common thing in the society, and the author finally decided to do a research on the Aciman’s novel that related to the issue of homosexuality. Homosexuality is romantic attraction, sexual attraction, or sexual behavior between members of the same sex. Even though this issue has become a common thing in the society, not everyone can accept the homosexual couples. Some people who cannot accept them in their society is because of their own
perception, attitude and so on. In creating this thesis, the author realized that having a good perception and attitude towards the issue of homosexuality is very important.
As a result, through the novel and this thesis, the author has explained about how the issue of homosexuality is being represented in the novel, what is researcher’sattitude towards the issue of homosexuality after reading the novel, and also the correlation between the issue of homosexuality in the novel and researcher’s perspective about the issue of homosexuality itself. In the discussion, the author
used the approaches or theories of lesbian, gay, and queer criticism and also the reader-response criticism to cover and elaborate the findings. Through this study,
the author has discussed that the issue of homosexuality in this novel is well represented. It has a significant role that could change the perspective and attitude
of the author in responding the issue of homosexuality.
